What
does the name "Tzoonie" mean?
The name Tzoonie is an interpretation of the aboriginal Sechelt Indian dialect
which means "Place of Shelter."
When is check-in and check-out time?
There are no set times. We usually time boat departures to and from Sechelt to
accommodate guests who generally rely on B.C.
Ferries to get here from the Lower
Mainland. There are no specific times although morning travel is preferred.
Are sleeping accommodations self-contained with kitchens and bathrooms?
No. There is main kitchen/dining room. Toilets are close to accommodations.
What is included in the kitchen?
Large propane stove, cupboards with complete inventory of pots, pans, dishes,
glasses, cutlery, etc. After 20 years we can pretty well guarantee we have everything
you might require. Most of the cooking is done in covered firepits.

What about the dining room?
Tables than can seat up to 16 persons with gorgeous view of resort and ocean.
Electric lights for late evenings.
How long do most guests stay?
The new guests, usually two nights, and then they complain that they didn’t
allow themselves enough time. Weekdays are usually not as busy as weekends.
What do you mean when you say “all the seafood you can eat“?
We are blessed with a generous supply of natural oysters, clams and mussels along
our shoreline. We encourage guests to gather and enjoy as much as they want while
at the resort. We will not transport any shellfish back to town. Our goal is
to ensure sustained supply for future generations.
What types of fishing licences are required?
A saltwater fishing licence for ocean fishing and shellfish can be purchased
in Sechelt or online at Fisheries

Yes. The water is usually quite pleasant during July & August – weather
permitting. You can swim from our docks or beach. Sandals are suggested. There is a freshwater rinsing shower on our dock.

Preparation Checklist
Should we bring special tools for shellfish, crabs, etc?
Not neccessary. We provide clam rakes, oyster shuckers, crab traps, etc
What about fishing gear?
Particularily for beginners we recommend that you make arrangement with Leo and
the comfortable “Bottoms-Up” Fishing
Charter boat. His rates are
great and he provides the equipment and expertise to take you through the process
of catching live bait for reef fishing of cod and red snapper. If you prefer to do your
own thing by small boat and motor or kayak, you must provide your own fishing
gear. Many guests enjoy fly fishing for sea-run cutthroat from kayaks or canoes.
Again, bring your own fly gear.
Do you have problems with bears?
No. We respect each other's privacy. Not a single bear has visited the resort
area for over a decade. Cleanliness is the key.
Is hunting allowed from resort?
No. Camera hunting only.
Should we bring bottled water?
Not necessary. Our spring/stream water is great.
Can you drive to resort?
No. Boat or floatplane access only.
Are there many flies and mosquitoes?
Not a problem. Sometimes there are a few but we have plenty of repellent.
Is there much wind in Narrows Inlet?
We can get summer thermals but for the most part this Inlet is more protected
than most and therefore preferable for paddling.
How cold does it get at night?
Similar to Vancouver or Seattle.
Is there any refrigeration for food?
Usually not. There is a deep freeze but we are reluctant to use it because of
generator noise. We recommend coolers and block ice.
